St. Joseph Health / Covenant Health Diet Aide - Dietary in Apple Valley, California

We are looking for a Diet Aide for the Administration Department at St. Mary Medical Center.

Location: Apple Valley, CA

Work Schedule: Part Time - 16 Biweekly Hours

Shift: 8-hour, Days (Variable)

Job Summary:

Provides technical support and perform essential clerical duties associated with the service of normal and modified diets to all patients. Assists the clinical dietitian with patient needs for tray line and records calorie counts. Checks patient tray line to ensure all patient trays are correct for diet and menu choices. Acts as a liaison between nursing and food and nutrition services regarding meal and tray services.

Essential Functions:

  • Maintains patient’s cardex in nutritional software program with patient’s preferences that have been obtained (likes, dislikes, food allergies, and ethnic/religious restrictions), tube feeding/oral supplement/nourishment orders received, colonoscopy/stress test procedures scheduled, and drug-nutrient interactions of medications being administered.

  • Offers assistance to patients with menu selections and modifies selections in an accurate manner based on the patient’s therapeutic diet patterns/restrictions.

  • Provides tallies, nourishments, and tray tickets on a timely basis for production staff.

  • Oversees operation of tray line, checking each patient tray to assure therapeutic diet accuracy and quality operating standards, as well as ensure special nourishments are prepared properly and delivered in a timely manner.

  • Acts as liaison between nurses, patients, and dietary caregivers to assure that patients are receiving prescribed diet that meets their food preferences/tolerances, requirements and restrictions. This includes answering pages for Skylight system and overseeing incoming communications to the kitchen by answering telephone and relaying information as needed for messages.

  • Maintains accurate record keeping for specified areas/tasks as requested.

  • Initiates appropriate diet communication or tray set up styles using age-specific knowledge while completing job-related duties and interacting with patients.

  • Maintains a clean and organized work area, which includes maintaining a stock of necessary forms and supplies through copying forms, or requesting as needed to the Dietary Coordinator any necessary supplies needed for purchasing in a timely manner.

  • Utilizes the hospital information system and nutritional software program via computer to access relevant patient information for completion of job duties.

  • Works or assists with food service worker tasks as necessary or requested by supervisor.

Skills:

  • Knowledge of regular, special and therapeutic diets.

Minimum Position Requirements:

Education:

  • H.S. Diploma or GED or equivalent educ/experience

  • Coursework/Training - Training in basic food preparation.

Licenses/Certifications: Current County of San Bernardino Food Handlers Card or ServSafe.

Preferred Position Qualifications:

Education: Coursework/Training - Successful completion of college courses with content including therapeutic diets, medical nutrition terminology, and anatomy or equivalent educ/experience

Experience: 6 months related experience.
