Providence Health & Services Sterile Processing Technician I in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Sterile Processing Technician I (Sterile Processing, Nights, 1.0 FTE - 40 hours per week) to Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:
Transport soiled and clean instruments and equipment.
Perform cleaning, decontamination and disinfection of surgical instruments and reusable medical devices according to manufacturer’s instructions.
Knowledgeable about surgical instruments; independently and accurately inspects instruments and equipment to ensure they are safe for patient use. Performs functional testing for specialty instrumentation. Takes appropriate action if instruments are not safe.
Prepare and package instruments for sterilization according to manufacturer’s instructions. Performs sterility assurance testing and takes appropriate action in the event of a sterility assurance failure.
Prepare and package instruments and instrument sets for sterilization. Sterilizes instruments and instrument sets according to manufacturers guidelines.
Knowledgeable about cleaning and sterilization equipment. Performs daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning and quality assurance testing. Takes appropriate action if any quality test fails. Able to perform troubleshooting and simple maintenance of equipment.
Prepare surgical case carts.
Able to retrieve, understand and follow manufacturer’s instructions.
Perform environmental cleaning duties within the Sterile Processing Department.
Responsible for accurate documentation of all sterile processing activities in accordance with regulations and professional standards.
Operate electronic instrument tracking system and other related computer systems.
Assure patient safety by communicating in a positive and professional manner. Builds collaborative relationships with coworkers, customers, and members of the multi-disciplinary team.
Participate in department quality improvement initiatives, including peer review tray accuracy audits.
Independently engages in professional development activities.
Identify real or potential safety risks. Takes immediate action to safeguard patients and coworkers in the event of quality or safety concerns.
Complete initial and annual Competency Plan for assigned job and department.
Required qualifications for this position include:
- Certification through IAHCSMM (as a CRCST) within 12 months of hire
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
H.S. Diploma or GED
Experience in sterile processing or Operating Room.
