Providence Nursing Manager - St. Elias in Anchorage, Alaska
Providence is calling a Nursing Manager ( Nursing Admin , Days, 1.0 FTE) to St Elias Specialty Hospital in Anchorage, Alaska. We are a community of caregivers delivering every day on our Mission to provide compassionate care that is accessible for all - especially those who are poor and vulnerable.
In this position you will:
RESOURCE UTILIZATION: Consider factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and impact on practice in the planning and delivery of nursing and other services. Utilize staffing management principles to assure adequate supply of all necessary staff to perform patient care. Plan for seasonal fluctuations and anticipate market changes which may impact volumes. Assure patient care is delivered in compliance to standards utilizing cost-effective methods. Explore options for expanding services and providing different services. Assist in development of annual operating budget, involving staff and physicians, as appropriate. Develop, implement, evaluate and modify programs and services need to meet patient care and staff development needs. Exercise independent judgment to implement plans for operations in areas of responsibility
LEADERSHIP: Provide visionary leadership in the professional practice setting and the profession. Use leadership principles to anticipate and influence change. Determine resources and actions needed to accomplish objectives. Set priorities and manage time effectively. Identify potential problems/opportunities and plans contingent action. Develop new and unique ideas to improve existing systems or operations, when new organizational approaches are needed. Collaborate with the medical director, CNE, ACNE/Director, other clinical mangers, clinical supervisors, patient care staff and informal leaders in these efforts. Encourage innovative efforts in others. Seek creative methods to resolve conflicts. Promote multi-disciplinary care of the patient
QUALITY OF PRACTICE: Systematically enhance the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice, nursing services administration and the delivery of services. Able to provide clinical care at the expert level and is a role model for staff in the clinical setting. Leads the unit in developing, modifying and implementing patient care standards, policies, procedures and protocols. Establish clear clinical practice expectations based on professional standards for areas of responsibility. Is responsible for the annual development and implementation of unit-based QI plans, incorporating appropriate aspects of the PHSA quality strategic plan. Indicators are identified and improvement processes utilize PDCA structure
COLLABORATION: Collaborate with all levels of nursing staff, providers, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders. Assign work and responsibly directs staff. Creates supporting systems that enable staff to jointly plan and deliver care. Role models collaboration and partnership with physicians, primary staff, patients, families and other departments. Schedule regular meetings with direct report staff to provide supervision, assure communication and to monitor facility operations; utilizes various methods to communicate with staff. Reviews or conducts, and documents annual performance evaluations on each direct report staff. Collaborate with staff, physicians and all appropriate Departments to promote optimal patient care and customer service. Model and mentor Providence Health and Services Standards of Service Excellence
COMPLIANCE: Direct and administer assigned functions to ensure high quality, cost-effective patient services which meet or surpass accreditation standards. Maintain and guide the implementation of organization policies and procedures in compliance with state, Federal and other regulatory guidelines. Assure adequate preparation for, and participate in, regulatory compliance surveys
EDUCATION/PROFESSIONAL PRACTICE EVALUATION: Maintain and use leadership, managerial, organizational and technical knowledge of areas of responsibility. Assume responsibility for obtaining information and expanding job knowledge and competency that reflects current practice. Role models personal development and education. Evaluate own nursing practice in relation to professional practice standards and guidelines, relevant statutes, rules and regulations. Obtain managerial specialty certification as applicable and able
COLLEGIALITY: Interact with and contributes to the professional development of peers and colleagues
ETHICS: Integrate ethical provisions in all areas of practice. Follow the “Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services” developed by the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops
RESEARCH: Integrate research findings into practice. Stays informed of current evidence-based protocols and standards for the management for patients in the area of responsibility. Collaborate with physicians and staff to incorporate these protocols and standards into patient care. Assist in the development, implementation and modification of programs and services needed to meet patient care and staff development needs
ADVOCACY: Advocate for the protections and rights of individuals, families, communities, populations, healthcare providers, nursing and other professions, and institutions and organizations, especially related to health and safety
HUMAN RESOURCE STEWARDSHIP: Direct and administer assigned positions and functions to ensure high quality, cost-effective patient services which meet or surpass accreditation standards. Use appropriate interpersonal skills to guide others to accomplish objectives, facilitate teamwork, participation and cooperation. Delegates work so subordinates have the necessary direction, authority and skills to complete assignments. Assure timely performance evaluations that reflect validated competence, safety, and quality standards of practice. Develop and promote talents of the team and succession planning. Counsel staff appropriately and is competent in conflict management
Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served
Required qualifications for this position include:
Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Alaska required
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) card must be from American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire
3 years recent management or supervisory experience. Supervisory experience may include leading teams in performance improvement actvities. Charge nurse or similar experience may count for up to years of the required experience.
Preferred qualifications for this position include:
2 years Management experience in like sized unit
