Providence Mental Health Therapist - Residential Treatment Program (on call) in Anchorage, Alaska


Providence is calling a Mental Health Therapist (Residential Treatment, Day Shift, 0.0 FTE) to the Providence Regional Building in Anchorage, Alaska. In this position you will:

  • Participate in treatment planning meetings and assist treatment team in identifying clinical problems for individual patients and their families and developing specific treatment plans. Assist in problem solving and planning for discharge by using community and hospital resources. Participate in case management and be responsible for the patient and family treatment and the functions of assessment, charting, discharge, and post-treatment planning, using the systems and procedures for the Crisis Recovery Center.

  • Facilitate and co-facilitate groups, family therapy sessions, and individual treatment sessions. Draw on theory and experience to provide a variety of therapeutic sessions and interventions specific to adults experiencing a psychiatric crisis.

  • Prepare and deliver lectures to clients, family members, or outside agencies, as requested. Work cooperatively with other team members in providing patient care and crisis management. Establish positive working relationships and role models healthy communication skills. Assist with orientation of new employees.

  • Continuously monitor all patient and family progress in treatment and outcomes as a result of interventions. Provide structure and safe limit setting by developing therapeutic rapport with the patient and their family. Make ongoing assessments of patient's mental health status and assist in crisis management. Provide patient education groups on a variety of mental health issues.

  • Document a thorough assessment, including mental status exam, interventions and activities related to patient's plan of care. Participate in continuous quality improvement process. Maintain a working knowledge of the program's policies and procedures.

  • Actively solicit patient’s family members and/or members of their social support network to participate in the treatment process. Orient patients and their families to unit rules, treatment rights and responsibilities, activities, and procedures. Review the plan of car including treatment goals, problems list, discharge criteria, discharge plan and relapse prevention plan with patients and specified members of their social support network.

  • Must attend a minimum of 80% of scheduled staff meetings or as required by the Clinic Director. Responsible for all meeting content regardless of attendance.

  • Implement care/services that recognize age/diversity specific needs/issues of customers served.

  • Complete Competency Plan for assigned job and department.


Required qualifications for this position include:

  • Master's degree in Psychology, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or health related field

  • Knowledge of mental health issues, both theory and practice, crisis intervention techniques, assessment techniques and understanding of family outcomes

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, group work skills and knowledge of age appropriate developmental issues for adolescents and their families

Preferred qualification for this position include:

  • Current licensure as a Clinical Social Worker, Marriage and Family Therapist or a Professional Counselor
